Unseen Sketches

Some pictures from the sketch book, parts that made it into the film and parts that didn’t. Would have been fun to have her screaming on the sax! See how the Pianoman and the cat could have been friends in the end. There are so many drawings in my sketch book I’d like to post up. Hope to do a few more before the end of the project if there’s time.

Life Drawing

I really enjoyed the life drawing this evening. We did lots of short poses which I find the most interesting and useful for animation. Looking forward to more classes with Vanessa.

Free Flow

We’ve trying to keep the animation style quite fluid. Especially for the woman, so the colours of the woman’s clothes still have movement in them. Originally the dress was going to be moving all the time but that looked too busy and distracting and was also really time consuming. I like the way it looks here with the onionskin in Flash and the coloured parts overlapping! Would be nice to capture this in an animation. Maybe the next one!

LIVE JAZZ

Yesterday evening was the live recording of the soundtrack. Richard Ford had composed a theme for Parties which was the starting point for the music then he led the other musicians through to make the music a free jazz experiment all the way to the end with a great finish! I was so pleased to be able to watch them record it. I really enjoyed soaking up the music, and it gave me confidence about the finished product. i think with this soundtrack the whole animation will come together and be more entertaining! I’m really excited about the finished product now.

They were a really talented bunch of musicians and really nice guys. So great to meet some musicians I’m so grateful that Richard could get them all together. I just listened to it with the animation, it sounds so cool!

Chema Banuls  –  Tenor sax

Enzo Bellomo – piano

Mateus Alves – Bass

Matt Thurtell –  drums

(live at the Royal College of Music. Thanks guys!)

Clay heads

I made these clay heads at the beginning of the animation to help show the characters faces from multiple angles, because my original designs were quite flat.

Bar Rats

These two are the jazz aficionados in the bar who can’t stop staring! I’m quite pleased with the design of these two background characters and Lynn has done a great job animating them!

GOSH a Saturday Treat.

Despite the fast running out of time for this project I’ve had to make time to read some comics, to keep me from going nuts. Going for the Colourful ones these days!

TANKED UP

Speaking of TANK GIRL! It’s been ages since I thought about her, she’s still great…I think I posted stuff about her last year… never mind… here’s more

Used to really love how she was always smashing stuff up. I actually first got into her because my sister said Gwen Stefani looked a bit like her, after hearing that there was no turning back…
