She’s from the Valley, he’s not…

ValleyGirl

I finally watched the whole of this movie Valley Girl, about Nic Cage, a major cornchip (a “punk” from Hollywood) and this pastel pink betty from the Valley. Naturally there’s more than the literal mountain range that they’ve got to overcome to be together. The plot holes are so 80’s, and the music ranges from kickin’ New Wave to the truly bogus Josie Cotton. With totally tubular lines like “fuck you for sure” and “Bitchin’ is this movie in 3D?”… “No, but your face is”   you gotta see this movie!

VAL

Been getting some inspiration from The Valley lately. I’m digging the 80’s Valley jargon in this Moon Zappa record (below). Plus picking up the vibe the places to hang from Encino Man, a movie about a frozen caveman who learns how to be just like a regular dude…sorta.

Not to stray too far from the Hollywood side of L.A. I re-watched the eternally awesome Clueless, a film that apparently just gets better and better as time goes by. So witty, and a cute attitude too.

Thrashin’

A still from Thrashin’ a movie about L.A. skaters. The Daggers (badass tough guys who spray-paint their bedroom walls) can’t stand the dudes from The Valley (the tanned ones with clean hair). The soundtrack was mostly lame 80’s synth stuff, and the message was a bit “it’s ok to skate as long as you don’t look like a punk” but the dialogue was funny! Everything was “gnarly” they weren’t kidding. The downhill race had people crashing their boards at every turn. One guy even had an inflatable skeleton in a noose on his wall! Seriously.
